Storyline

A comical story of the friendship between a young villager named Jemmy who comes to medieval Prague to make his livelihood and his constantly babbling Goat. The turn of events comes when Jemmy falls in love with Katy – a street-wise girl from Prague. Goat is jealous, raving, and he starts to hate Katy. Jemmy works on the construction of the Charles Bridge, and later, as a carver, he helps Master Hanus, in whose house Katy is a maid. After the grand unveiling of the Astronomical Clock, Master Hanus is blinded by greedy Aldermen so that he will not be able to create another work of art that is even bigger and more beautiful. Blind Master Hanus, with help from Katy, disables the clock with the last of his strength and how everything turns out depends on Jemmy… And on top of all this Goat is still jealous. The humorously-told storyline of love and friendship between a man and an animal blends together with the story of a poor student, Matthias, from the mysterious Faust House. Greed for money and the signing away of Matthias’ soul to the Devil represent a chief contrast to the love and friendship.
